Creating food nutrition facts labels and other label copy to comply with the Made in USA standard is not as straightforward as it may seem. There are regulations that make clear when and where you can say Made in the USA on food labels. When ingredients are sourced and manufacturing takes place in the USA, the impact for food nutrition facts labels and other label copy is pretty straightforward. But what are the implications for food nutrition facts labels and other label copy if ingredients are foreign sourced but the formula is manufactured in the USA? What if the majority of food components are from the USA?

Clear and informative food nutrition facts labels

Made in USA is considered to be a marketing claim that applies to products and food labels, advertising, and other promotional materials. FTC (and not FDA) regulates this U.S. origin claim to prevent deception and unfairness on food labels and packaging in the marketplace.

To include Made in USA or Product of USA on food labels, FTC has required that the product be all or virtually all made in the U.S. The term U.S. includes the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories and possessions, such as Puerto Rico, Guam or the Mariana Islands.

When products contain foreign components but are packaged or assembled in the U.S. the concept of substantial transformation becomes relevant for

Canadian products of domestic and foreign materials may say \”Made in Canada from imported ingredients\” or \”Made in Canada from domestic and imported ingredients\” (but cannot claim Product of Canada on the food label) provided the last \”substantial transformation\” of the product took place in Canada. The Padrn 1926 Serie was introduced by Padrn Cigars in 2002 in honor of founder Jos O. Padrn’s 75th birthday, but most especially in honor of his lifetime of accomplishments in the tobacco industry. They set themselves the task of creating a cigar that exhibits his favorite characteristics – a full-bodied cigar that combines complexity, balance and flavor in equal measure.

Padrn Cigars is among the largest boutique manufacturers in the world, and one of the few who limits their production to assure the quality of their cigars from the ground all the way to their customers hands. Currently managed by three generations of the Padrn family, the company is under the leadership of Jos O. Padrn and Jorge Padrn.

The family limits their production so as not to need a sales force, allowing them to oversee all of their customers needs themselves in an effort to assure the integrity, honor, and quality of the family name: “When Padrn Is On The Label, Quality Is a Matter Of Family Honor.”

The dark chocolate Maduro wrapper of the regular 1926 Serie line looks delicious enough to eat. Each box-pressed cigar, a trademark of the Padrn cigars, is banded by the famous Padrn band, which is embossed with a unique serial number. The construction of the 1926 Serie cigar is just what youd expect from the limited production Padrns: perfection.

Pre-light, the draw was easy even though, the cigar is tightly-packed and hard to the touch. After cutting the cap, the cigar exudes the earthiness that is characteristic of the Nicaraguan Puros with a hint of chocolate.

The burn is fairly even although it does sometimes require a minor relight or two. In spite of the tight pack, the draw is extremely easy, with each puff producing a satisfyingly large amount of smoke. The ash is gray in color and holds extremely well.

The 1926 Serie is a cigar smokers fantasy come truethe flavors are a complex montage of delicious tastes permeated by the earthiness that comes with a Nicaraguan Puro. The first third sees the flavors blossom into an extremely pleasing medley of deep rich chocolate and coffee. The second third sees the addition of a deliciously peppery spiciness which settles into a predominantly chocolate flavor intensified with the addition of even more spicy notes in the final third.

The Padrns 1926 Serie is a full spectrum, wonderfully complex cigar which certainly explains why it is so popular and highly regarded. While too dear to be in most smokers everyday rotation, special occasions demand a really special cigar, and Padrns 1926 Serie is certainly that.

How To Purchase Property Using Your SMSF

A growing number of investors are realizing the opportunity presented by being able to purchase property through their SMSFs. Here at Royal Capital. We specialize in guiding our Private Wealth members in the right direction when it comes to making this type of investment.

Purchasing property is a great way to add some diversity to your SMSF. You can purchase properties such as residential, commercial, retail, rural and holiday apartments.

Up until 2007 super funds could not borrow or charge their assets. However following amendments made in 2007 SMSFs can borrow provided the borrowed funds are used to purchase an asset such as real estate; the asset is held on trust for the SMSF by another entity (typically the Property Trustee); the SMSF has the right to acquire legal ownership of the asset by making payment, and the lender s recourse against the SMSF must be limited to the underlying asset (i.e. the purchased property). In other words, the lender cannot have a right of recourse against other assets of the fund.

As the owner of the property and the borrower of the loan, the SMSF is responsible for all expenses one would normally expect associated with the purchase of an investment property. That is, whatever expenses you would have been responsible for had you borrowed money in your own name rather than your super fund you are responsible for. As owner of the property your SMSF is responsible for any council rates, water rates, land tax, interest and other loan repayments; lender s fees; repairs; property management costs; and any insurance premiums, and management fees imposed by the Property Trustee.

Some of the benefits of purchasing property through your SMSF include a tax rate of only 15 per cent during the accumulation phase which drops to 0 per cent in the pension phase. This can potentially result in large CGT savings, compared to being taxed at marginal tax rates up to 46.5 per cent if the property is personally held.

In addition assets in the SMSF are secure as the lender only has recourse on the investment property, plus any additional security provided by the guarantor. If rental property is purchased the loan is paid off by using super contributions and rental income; and the SMSF is only taxed at the net income after loan interest and expenses are deducted against the rental income.

The number of Australians choosing to manage their own super through a self managed super fund (SMSF) is far greater than you might think. At 31 March 2010 the total superannuation assets in Australia was $1.26 trillion and SMSFs held the largest proportion of superannuation assets accounting for over $400 billion or 31.8 per cent. There are currently over 422,000 SMSFs with an estimated 2,000 new funds being established each month.*
